OPHS, Second Helpings to provide meals for homeless

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The Indiana Office of Public Health and Safety has partnered with Second Helpings to provide and deliver boxed meals to Indianapolis residents experiencing homelessness. The organization says the service is essential during the current COVID-19 crisis.

“Indianapolis continues to show that we’re in this together by providing care to our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Our city is dedicated to making sure our homeless neighbors have their essential needs met during this pandemic which includes having a healthy meal.”

Second Helpings says it intends to provide more than 1,600 meals a week for the next few weeks to those who are unsheltered.

Additionally, Pacers Sports and Entertainment has made Bankers Life Fieldhouse’s refrigeration facilities available for temporary storage of the meals. Teams from the Professional Blended Street Outreach (PBSO) and the Pour House then deliver the meals to small groups of individuals in encampments around the city.
