Purdue names facility after Indiana company
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — An Indiana seed technology company is being honored with the naming of a facility on the West Lafayette campus to recognize their partnership with the College of Agriculture. The university’s Board of Trustees has named the Controlled Environment Phenotyping Facility after Romney, Indiana-based Ag Alumni Seed.
The company specializes in hybrid popcorn and is now funding a second growth chamber to more than double the facility’s plant holding capacity. The 7,300 square foot building has been open since February 2018 and includes a 256-plant chamber with space for a second chamber. More facility space will allow researchers to expand the scope of experiments.
The new growth chamber will come with enhancements to expand research capabilities.
“The increased capacity and CO2 capabilities will provide opportunities for Purdue faculty, students and staff to conduct leading, relevant research that will improve sustainable plant production which is critical to meeting global food and fiber demands,” said Bernie Engel, associate dean of agricultural research and graduate education.
Construction is set to begin in July.
