Purdue University Global launches contact tracing course
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — The need for contact tracers to slow the spread of COVID-19 has prompted Purdue University Global to launch a free contact tracing course. The new self-study course requires six to eight hours to complete and those who finish the course will receive a completion certificate.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says contact tracing is the process of identifying people who may have come into contact with an infected person, and breaking the chain of transmission. The course is designed using World Health Organization content aligned with information from the U.S. CDC and will cover six chief topics:
- Strategies to reduce the spread of the disease.
- How COVID-19 is contracted and transmitted
- COVID-19 contact tracing protocols.
- Contact tracing legal requirements.
- Effective risk communication.
- Analytical skills for quality improvement and more.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials says the recommended state staffing guidelines is 30 tracers for every 100,000 residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visit here for more information.
