INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Indianapolis-based The Mind Trust is extending its Community Learning Site initiative with an $88,000 investment. The funding, which includes a $24,000 contribution from the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation, will support continued operation of three learning sites.

The three sites, Christamore House, Cornerstone Lutheran Church operated by Shepherd Community Center, and The Reset Center, will continue to serve up to 130 students through December 17.

“We are proud of the work all of our Community Learning Site partners did over the last nine weeks to meet the needs of families and students who might not have otherwise had access to eLearning support and childcare,” said Brandon Brown, chief executive officer of The Mind Trust. “The generous support from the Office of Education Innovation means we can continue to provide this needed service to families at no cost to them.”

The Mind Trust’s extension was supported by contributions from individuals around the community. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett this week announced the additional funding from the Office of Education Innovation.

“The Mind Trust’s investment in continuing the Community Learning Sites shows their commitment to Indianapolis students and families. I’m grateful this option exists so that parents and caregivers can head back to work and know their children have a safe, supportive environment for eLearning,” said Hogsett.

With many schools and districts returning to virtual learning, The Mind Trust says it launched 11 Community Learning Sites in August to provide a no-cost, weekday e-learning and childcare option.

With the extension, the organization says its total investment in the initiative is more than $275,000.
