Volunteer management startup growing in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — A Bloomington-based software startup is growing in Monroe County. Civic Champs, which has developed a volunteer management platform for nonprofits, says it plans to create up to 30 jobs over the next several years and has already filled four full-time positions toward that goal.
The company’s platform is designed to “streamline the relationship between nonprofits and volunteers” by automating volunteer management, allowing nonprofits “to increase its pools of donors by improving the volunteer experience.”
Civic Champs says it is outgrowing its current space at The Mill in Bloomington, which is the result of the $1 million in funding raised since its founding in 2019. The company, which also has an office in Pittsburgh, says it is evaluating options for growing its footprint.
“One of the things I’ve truly enjoyed since moving to Bloomington is discovering all of its hidden gems including the companies that are thriving here,” Geng Wang, chief executive officer of Civic Champs, said in a news release. “It was an exciting day when The Mill opened its doors because it helped launch and connect more and more companies like Civic Champs. We’re excited to continue growing our platform here in Indiana, and look forward to building on the entrepreneurial momentum in Bloomington.”
The company is currently hiring for market, sales, and software development positions. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Civic Champs up to $280,000 in conditional tax credits, which the company will not be eligible to claim until Hoosier workers are hired for the new jobs.

The City’s investment in the redevelopment of the Mill as an incubator for innovative entrepreneurship has fostered an entrepreneurial ecosystem that allows high-tech companies like Civic Champs to launch and scale their operations.”
Since launching in May 2019, Civic Champs was named a regional winner of the Elevate Nexus pitch competition, earning $80,000 in seed funding. The company also took part in the Venture Club of Indiana’s Innovation Showcase last month.
