Zimmer Biomet names CEO of spin-off company

WARSAW, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Warsaw-based Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. (NYSE: ZBH) has selected Vafa Jamali as chief executive officer of NewCo, the spine and dental businesses of Zimmer Biomet that will spin off into an independent, publicly-traded company. Jamali most recently served as chief commercial officer for Rockley Photonics in California.

Jamali has spent 20 years in executive leadership positions in the medical device industry. Prior to his tenure at Rockley, he served as senior vice president of respiratory, gastrointestinal & informatics at Ireland-based Medtronic PLC.

“Vafa’s extensive knowledge and experience in building teams, developing long-term growth strategies, prioritizing resources, driving execution and delivering growth across the medical device industry make him the ideal leader to shape the direction of NewCo and move the business forward,” Bryan Hanson, chief executive officer of Zimmer Biomet, said in a news release. “I look forward to partnering with Vafa – and the leadership team that he builds – through this important transition so we can position NewCo for maximum success.”

Plans for the spin off were first announced earlier this month. Zimmer Biomet says the move is expected to close in mid-2022.
