Zionsville seeking public input on gateway project
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The town of Zionsville has begun the first stage of its Gateway Development Project. The town has completed demolition of the PNC Bank building and locksmith shop at the corner of Main and Sycamore streets, and now Mayor Emily Styron is asking for community input on how to reinvent the gateway into the town’s historic Village Business District.
The project aims to find the “highest and best use” for the real estate in the area. The town says such a use would increase both economic investment in the area and community development amenities that serve residents and businesses.
“This is about reversing the process where developers interested approach the town with their ideas, and instead the community will develop the concept and the town will present this to the development community,” said Styron. “As we get started, I expect we will have many different opinions proposed, but we will give everyone a voice that participates and work to find common ground.”
The town has enlisted Indianapolis-based strategic planning and consulting firm Thomas P. Miller and Associates to begin the process of engaging with the community. Additionally, Indianapolis-based DELV Design Studio will produce master planning and design options and package them into designs that will be used in future Requests for Proposals.
“Through these structured community conversations around our entryway, we will identify the highest and best use of the property as defined by numerous stakeholders. I can’t wait to get to work on reinventing this area that has been neglected for so many years. This project will be truly transformational,” Styron said.
Discussions will include a project launch meeting, stakeholder interviews and focus group meetings and at least two community meetings. At the end of this process, the town says it will draft a final development scenario plan for use in any future RFPs.
