IPS to offer meal service to students during closure
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Public Schools have joined the long list of school systems closing their doors, starting Friday, due to the coronavirus.
However, the district and city leaders are making sure the children do not go hungry during their time off.
The closure affects 13 schools and over 40,000 students in Marion County.
City-sponsored charter schools will also be impacted.
IPS’s website says the meal service is open to all students age 18 and younger – that includes non-IPS students.
The food can be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Friday.
There are seven pickup locations:
- George Washington High School
- Arlington Woods School
- Brookside School
- Carl Wilde School
- Eleanor Skillen School
- James Whitcomb Riley School
- Charles Warren Fairbanks School
The meals will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
IPS says days, times and locations for future meal service will be available soon.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has said keeping students fed will continue to be a top priority over the next few weeks.
