ISP: Suspect shot after firing at police near Greensburg
DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A suspect was shot Wednesday evening after police say he fired at officers near Greensburg.
It happened around 5 p.m. As United States Marshals and Indiana State Police Troopers arrived to serve felony arrest warrants, they say the suspect fled into a wooded area.
Officers searched for the suspect for a few hours before they dialed back on their search. Police say the suspect then emerged from the wooded area and engaged in a gun battle with officers. Officials say several shots were fired and the suspect was hit multiple times. No officers were hit.
Police rendered aid to the man at the scene. The suspect was transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital and then to IU Health Methodist Hospital. His condition is unknown.
The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duty during the investigation, which is customary. Their names have not been released.
