Jared Fogle actively gave back to the local community

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Jared Foundation is the charity Jared Fogle founded to help kids deal with childhood obesity.

And, it’s not the only impact Fogle had here in central Indiana. Fogle was a guest on Daybreak in 2013, as he partnered with a company called Race to Play to build a playground in Columbus.

“Times have changed,” said Fogle. “Kids can’t just go outside and play like they used to. So, to give them a secure place and a great playground facility at the Jared Foundation we thought that was a great initiative so we have given our fair share of the contribution and really backing this program.”

A check of his Twitter page shows in April, the Indiana University graduate was back in Bloomington taking part in the Hoosier Half Marathon. His foundation was the not-for-profit partner in the event. He even enlisted people to run a 5k with him, calling that group “Jared’s joggers.”

Also in April of this year, Jared was the guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Indianapolis, talking about health and fitness.

In February, Fogle spoke on the same topic at an event in Evansville.

The last time 24-Hour News 8 caught up with Fogle, he had stopped by Franklin Central High School, to encourage a student who was struggling with obesity.

It’s a journey that started all because a young man from Indianapolis decided to start trying to lose weight.

Jared lost 245 pounds by eating Subway sandwiches, and has been the spokesperson for the company ever since.
