Judge to consider accused cop killers request to represent himself
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man accused of killing an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer appeared in court on Friday.
Major Davis, Jr. appeared before a judge for a hearing on a motion to withdraw appearance after Davis requested to have his attorneys dismissed and he be allowed to represent himself. The judge granted a motion for a determination of competency and put Davis’ request to represent himself under advisement.
Davis initially made the request in April, however court documents show a judge threw out the request until motion was properly filed. According to court record, the motion was filed in May 2016.
Davis is facing a murder charge after being accused of the July 2014 killing of IMPD officer Perry Renn.
A hearing on the advisement is set for Aug. 2.
