Junior Achievement moving curriculum online
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — As schools pivot toward online learning, Junior Achievement of Central Indiana is moving one of its biggest student programs, JA JobSpark, to being fully online. The curriculum and event will be available through a new virtual platform designed for students and teachers to participate in classroom activities from their homes.
The program includes coursework and a two-day online career expo set for Sept. 22-23 for more than 10,000 central Indiana eighth graders to connect with professionals. JobSpark 2020 will be held on a video-game like platform custom made by JA through local sponsors. Students, parents and teachers will be able to virtually explore the Indiana State Fairgrounds while also being involved in career exploration games and activities.
Students will have the opportunity to experience interactive learning in eight different industry clusters:
- Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics
- Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
- Architecture, Engineering and Construction
- Business and Finance
- Government, Law and Public Service
- Health and Life Sciences
- Hospitality and Life Sciences
- Hospitality and Tourism
- Technology
“While we at Junior Achievement understand there is no replacement for hands-on, in-person education, we’re excited to virtually connect our students with professionals in careers of their interest,” said Jennifer Burk, president and CEO of JA of Central Indiana. “Many aspects of our lives have been limited or put on hold due to COVID-19, but we’re ensuring our students continue to have opportunities to prepare for their future.”
