1 dead in 3-vehicle crash in Grant County

UPLAND, Ind. (WISH) — A person has died after a three-vehicle crash Thursday night.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. in the 4600 block of South State Road 5, just north of Upland, about 10 miles from where the Federal Aviation Administration was investigating a Thursday afternoon plane crash that killed a 60-year-old man.

According to video from witness Ashley Lopez at the scene, one of the vehicles caught fire; crews can be seen dousing the flames. Lopez said a medical helicopter arrived at the scene, as well as crews from Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County EMS and Upland Police Department.

Lopez said two juveniles in one of the other vehicles appeared to suffer minor injuries.

The person who died was the driver of one of the vehicles, Grant County Coroner Chris Butche said. Butche suspects the victim is male but said identification was difficult. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

No additional information about the cause or circumstances of the crash or other possible injuries was immediately available.
