1 killed in fire on city’s near east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person was killed in a fire on the city’s near east side, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Crews were called to a residence in the 3600 block of East Vermont Street around 9 a.m. Friday for a report of a fire.

Members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and IFD are on scene investigating the deadly fire.

The victim was later identified as Charles Burgess Jr., 24.

The cause of the fire is unclear. IMPD and IFD had released no new information by Friday night.
