1 week since west side house explosion: ‘I didn’t know what to do’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It’s been a week Friday since a gas leak caused a house explosion on the west side of Indianapolis.

One of the victims’ names is Penny. Her family said she had burns and broken bones throughout her body.

Todd Long, Penny’s boyfriend, said he was at work when he got a call that his house was on fire.

“I ran over here to the end of the road and the police were trying to stop me and I tried to get around them and they’re grabbing me. Nobody was allowed in here. I didn’t know what to do. They should have sat me down and said, ‘Calm down, sir. Your family’s going to be okay,’ or something,” said Long.

He said a GoFundMe is up for his family to recover and rebuild.

“I’m going to be here every day I can to hold her and touch her and let her know that I’m here. I’m always here for her. Twenty-five years I’ve been here for her and I’m not going to stop now,” explained Long.
