17th annual Mutt Strut goes virtual

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IndyHumane’s 17th annual Mutt Strut brought the pups out for a walk on Saturday, but the event was held virtually.

It’s usually at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The shelter broadcast event ceremonies virtually on Saturday morning. Then people were encouraged to go on a scavenger hunt with their pet in their own neighborhood.

The Mutt Strut is the shelter’s largest fundraiser of the year. The CEO says it takes about $400,000 a month to operate IndyHumane, so the fundraiser is important to them.

“We’re very excited. We’re doing the best we can in the challenging times, but so is everybody else. We’re just glad to be having the event. This event is very important to us. It’s our largest annual fundraising event. Normally it would raise about $350,000. We don’t anticipate doing that this year,” said David Horth, CEO of IndyHumane.

Participants in this year’s virtual event were encouraged to post pictures using #IndyMuttStrut for a chance to win prizes.
