2-month-old critically hurt in attack; police say suspect seen with baseball bat

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 2-month-old Indianapolis boy remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night after a brutal attack at Twin Hills Apartments on the city’s near north side.

Four adults and a 10-month-old girl were also injured in the incident Monday around 7 p.m. in the 3500 block of Baltimore Avenue, a police spokesperson told News 8.

Police and hospital officials declined to comment on the conditions of the other five victims.

They were all friends or relatives and likely knew the assailant, authorities said.

The incident was not believed to be a random attack or home invasion carried out by a stranger.

The motive remained under investigation Tuesday night, in addition to the cause of the six victims’ injuries.

At least one suspect was seen holding a baseball bat at the scene, according to Sgt. Jim Gillespie, a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

A witness told News 8 at least one baby was struck with the baseball bat; police declined to comment.

Multiple neighbors reported hearing gunshots before detectives and medics arrived.

Neighbors who said they witnessed the aftermath of the attack described victims — young and old — with extensive injuries.

“[One man] looked like he was okay until he turned,” said Twin Hills resident Joseph Jones. “All of his face was just cut open and he was spitting blood.”

Another neighbor, shaken by the grisly scene, described chaos at the “usually quiet” apartment complex.

“It makes you want to keep your kids in the house,” he told News 8.

Nobody had been arrested Tuesday in connection with the Baltimore Avenue incident.
