$7.4M project to improve pedestrian traffic between City Market and City-County Building

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A portion of East Market Street is expected to close on Tuesday.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works said the street will close between Delaware and Alabama Streets.

It will be the first phase of a $7.4 million project to improve the pedestrian infrastructure.

Southbound traffic on Alabama and northbound traffic on Delaware will remain open, but traffic lanes will shift to accommodate construction, according to DPW. Parking on the west side of Delaware will be restricted as the parking lane is repurposed for traffic during construction.

Improvements to East Market Street includes a raised pedestrian crossing, curb bump-outs and additional vehicle parking between the City-County Building and the City Market, DPW said.

The project should be completed by the end of 2021.
