ADVANCE, Ind. (WISH) — A 71-year-old man died after a Thursday night house fire in Boone County, the sheriff’s office said Friday night.

Bobby Shelton was found dead in a bathroom area of the house. He was the only person in the house he owned.

The Boone County Communications Center received a call from a good Samaritan shortly after 7:10 p.m. Thursday that a house was on fire in the South 3300 block of County Road 700 West. That’s in a rural area less than a mile east of the town of Advance and about 15 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

A news release issued Friday night from the sheriff’s office said, “As fire personnel engaged in extinguishing the fire, two explosions took place. The explosions were found to be caused by two oxygen tanks. Multiple other oxygen tanks were located within the residence and were removed quickly before the fire was able to reach them.”

The Advance Fire Department has not yet determined the cause of the blaze.

An autopsy was scheduled for Shelton to determine his cause of death.
