American Cancer Society, Red Cross team up for blood drive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross are teaming up in hopes to get more people to donate blood.

Sixteen Indiana counties are participating in the month-long blood drive called “Give Blood to Give Time.”

According to the two organizations, people fighting cancer need more blood than patients fighting any other disease.

Meaning they will use nearly one-quarter of the nation’s blood supply.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in three people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

More than 37,000 new cases will be diagnosed in Indiana this year. However, only 3% of people in the U.S. donate blood.

You have the chance to help raise that statistic this month. Here’s when and where to donate in Marion County:

  • 2/11 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 4790 W. 16th Street
  • 2/12: noon – 6 p.m. Butler University, 704 West Hampton Drive
  • 2/14: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Duke Realty, 8711 River Crossing Blvd.
  • 2/19: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Indiana State Capitol, 200 West Washington Street
