Anderson Community Schools to investigate social media threat

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — Anderson Community School officials say they will get to the bottom of a recent threat to the middle and high school.

School leaders say police will do extra patrols in the district. Both Highland Middle School and Anderson High School students will see more police Monday.  The district sent a message on Facebook to the community: 

As you may or may not have heard, there has been a threat been made over social media concerning both HMS and AHS. The post was anonymous but is being taken seriously and investigated by ACS and local law enforcement agencies.

While widely published anonymous social media threats are generally a hoax, ACS takes every threat seriously. There will be an increased police presence throughout the district tomorrow. The superintendent and members of the central office administrative team will also be in the schools to coordinate and supervise procedures to ensure your child’s safety.

Your child’s safety is our #1 priority! It is disappointing that threats are made to disrupt your family’s peace of mind and your child’s education. ACS has spent additional time this year on training and will continue to be diligent in our efforts to ensure the safety of our students and staff in our schools. We will continue to work with authorities to identify the source of the threat, and to prepare for enhanced security for our schools.
 

Another threat was made earlier this year made to a school near Anderson, Indiana. In February, a 19-year-old was arrested after he commented to another student about his access to guns and plans to shoot up the Frankton-Lapel district’s alternative school.
