Bitter cold makes conditions icy for Indy firefighters

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis firefighters say the cold weather made conditions difficult for them at the scene of an east side fire Sunday night.

It happened around 10 p.m. at the Briergate Apartments, which is near 39th Street and Post Road.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, water used to fight the fire turned to ice, making sidewalks and equipment slick.

The fire displaced seven people. Firefighters say one woman was taken to the hospital with a minor injury.

Investigators say grease on a stove caused the fire.
