Carmel basketball coach injured on vacation back in Indiana

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A Carmel basketball coach injured while on vacation in the Dominican Republic was back in Indiana on Friday night.

Kevin Sweeney, a coach for the Carmel High School girls basketball team, broke three vertebrae in his neck and back when a wave crashed into him, causing him to hit his head on the sea floor.

His wife told News 8 was in the ICU on Friday night.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with his medical expenses, including costs connected to his medical flight from the Dominican Republic back to the United States.
