Construction could cause significant backup on I-65 SB at Southport Road

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Bumper-to-bumper traffic Wednesday night for a few miles put cars on Interstate 65 southbound at a standstill.

It was all thanks to bridge repair by the Southport Road exit, and drivers are making plans since the work will continue through the morning commute.

Drivers on Wednesday morning had faced similar traffic but on I-65 North for the same bridge work.

Drivers who News 8 spoke with said the traffic lasted most of the day.

A few miles south of the construction, a fatal car crash occurred Wednesday morning.

Indiana State Police said in a news release that a car slammed into a semitractor-trailer stopped due to traffic. The driver of the car died at the scene.

One driver in Greenwood gave tips to avoid the traffic jams. Watch the video to see what she said.
