Cyclist catches motorist on the Monon Trail

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — It happened again!

For the second time in less than a week, someone has been caught driving a vehicle on the Monon Trail.

News 8 viewers shared pictures of a car driving between 111th and 116th Street.

Now, a cyclist caught video of a vehicle driving on the trail on Monday morning.

Ben Matthews posted video to Facebook showing the vehicle on the trail.

He says this driver also appeared to enter at 111th Street.

“They seemed to realize their mistake after almost half a mile, so they turned around and drove back toward 111th St.,” he said in the post.

He said he rides his bike to work most days and that he has never seen anything like this.

“In the thousands of miles I have commuted on or ridden on the Monon, I have never seen someone driving on the Monon (besides police or emergency personnel) until today,” Matthews said. “Maybe better signage needs to be put in place to clear any confusion?”

News 8’s Tim McNicholas is meeting up with Matthews to speak more about the ordeal. You can catch his interview tonight at 5 and 6.
