CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Christmas lovers who adore Döner kebab, Kartoffelpuffer and Springerle cookies can get their fill at Carmel Christkindlmarkt starting in November.

Organizers announced Thursday night that all three were added to the smorgasbord of seasonal foods for the 2021 market that features German gift, craft and food vendors plus entertainment and ice skating. The 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maria Murphy, chief executive officer and market master for the event, described the “quintessential German treats” in a news release:

  • Döner kebab is a type of sandwich or wrap made with meat from a vertical rotisserie.
  • Kartoffelpuffer are a type of potato pancake popular throughout Germany.
  • Springerle cookies are a shortbread-like cookie that feature an embossed design.

This year’s event will be Nov. 20-Dec. 24 at Carter Green, located between The Palladium and The Tarkington Theater. Carter Green will have a new winter pavilion and stage, according to the release.
