Downtown businesses looking for help painting plywood following protests

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Many downtown businesses remain boarded up following last weekend’s protests but some owners are adding color to the plywood to make their buildings look more inviting.

Downtown business owners said they expect the boards to stay up for some time because glass manufacturers are having a hard time keeping up with demand.

Some companies have seen an increase in orders as protests have popped up across the country and production is slow because many have been shut down due to COVID-19.

Owner of Downtown Comics, Doug Stephenson, decided to paint the plywood on his storefront white and asked local artists to add murals.

Many immediately responded and got to work. Now, several other stores and business owners want theirs painted, too.

Stephenson said there is still a lot of work to be done and he encourages people to reach out and add art.

He can also connect you to other businesses that want to be painted. He encourages you to either stop by or call his store.
