East-side church feeds 200+ families at drive-in donation program on Saturdays
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than 200 families were served meals for the upcoming week all thanks to a church on the city’s east side.
New Direction Church on 38th Street has been giving out food to families for more than a month now. The church gives out hundreds of pounds of food each week. This is the fifth week it’s held a drive-thru food donation and the church’s pastor says it won’t stop because he has so many volunteers to rely on.
“Thank God for our volunteers. With restriction of COVID and social distancing, they put on masks and gloves and put themselves in harm’s way to be a blessing to the community,” said Pastor Kenneth Sullivan with New Direction Church.
New Direction Church says they stock up once a week from Gleaners and Midwest Food Bank. The food drive-in is every Saturday from 8-11 a.m.
