Elwood firefighter dies of COVID-19 complications, ‘presumably’ contracted virus in line of duty

ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — A firefighter with the Elwood Fire Department died of complications related to COVID-19 on Sunday, the department announced in a Facebook post.

The post says Mark Gillam “presumably” contracted the virus in the line of duty.

Gillam died after what was described as a “lengthy and hard fought battle.”

Information about arrangements to honor Gillam’s service will be announced through departmental and social media channels when it becomes available, according to the post.
