Esports makes its way to Indiana

CARMEL, Ind . (WISH) – Esports is growing–spreading like wildfire throughout the country.

That’s why Scott Wise, co-founder of Player One Sports in Carmel, says it was about time Indiana got in the game.

“I saw my kids playing and they locked themselves up in the bedroom or down in the basement but it has a social component so they put on these headsets and they’re talking to their friends,” he said. “As I’m watching this all happen, I think ‘is there a way to bring this into a social setting?’”

That question led him to partner with other business minds to turn this new craze into a competitive sports league.

They call it “Evolve.”

The idea is to get kids out of their rooms and interacting with other gaming fans. They would even be coached by professional gamers.

“It’s an eight-week season, where you have to practice once a week,” Wise said.

“You have a game on the weekends and at the very end, you crown a champion.”

Much like the video gaming world, it’s not just for the young kids.

“We’ve already started putting together a high school league for next season and we’ve even got some people that are ages of 21, all the way to 35 and 45 that want to create an adult league,” Wise said.

But I learned the hard way you can get schooled on any level when it comes to games like the popular “Fortnite.”

As it brings more people together and continues to grow all over the nation, organizers believe Esports is here to stay.

“Carmel is just the first location,” Wise said.
