INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – We met the new police dog joining the Fishers Police Department.

K-9 officer Harlej was killed in the line of duty four months ago.

Fishers officer Jarred Koopman says he’s excited for the new journey.

Koopman and Rico both stopped by Daybreak Tuesday.

However, before he officially joins the force, Rico still has a few weeks left of training.

Koopman discussed what some of that training involves, what Rico’s role will be and what the transition process has been like going from mourning to Harlej’s passing to welcoming and getting to know Rico.
