Ginger the dog adopted after 472 days in animal shelter

DANVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Ginger the dog has been adopted after spending 472 days at the Hendricks County Animal Shelter, the longest any dog has spent at the shelter in recent years. 

As News 8 initially reported earlier this month, the pit bull mix was brought to the shelter on Oct. 3, 2017, as a stray with a broken hip and heartworms. Once Ginger was in good health, the shelter said they wanted to see her go to a good home. 

Michigan resident Michael Trudeau drove for hours to adopt Ginger after hearing about the dog from friends in Indianapolis.  

After hearing about Ginger, Jake Query, co-host of the sports radio show “Query & Schultz” on Fox Sports 97.5, told News 8’s Jenny Dreasler he would cover the costs for a suitable home to adopt the pup. The cost to adopt an animal is $70 in cash plus a $9.95 money order to register a microchip. 

Query told News 8 he would be going to Danville on Saturday to make good on his offer.
