Group forms to thank first responders with McAlister’s Deli meals

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A grassroots movement is giving away hundreds of meals to those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jessica Riley says she started thinking of ways she could thank first responders a few weeks ago. After a phone call with McAlister’s Deli, a partnership was formed. The group has donated about 600 boxed meals over the last two weeks.

News 8 caught up with the group downtown on Tuesday. First responders were invited to pick up a meal and receive a heartfelt thank you for their efforts.

Riley said, “I’ve just been reaching out to people who might be willing to help and more people are now reaching out to me wanting to help.”

The group hopes to double the number of meals they serve next week. If you would like to help out, donations can be made at any McAlister’s Deli location.
