Growing charter school on far east side raising funds for the future

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Circle City Prep, a charter school for elementary schools on the city’s far east side, is building up a small community of positive young learners, but they need some help keeping that mission alive and they’re asking for your help raising the money.

One reason they throw their annual “Back to School” fundraiser is because Circle City Prep is tuition-free for families to enroll their kids.

That’s not all that makes this place different from other schools.

The classrooms are college-themed, meaning each class is named after a university instead of having an elementary mascot.

Notable schools you’ll hear being chanted throughout the school, by the kids, are Howard University, Depauw University, Spellman and Morehouse Colleges and Washington University.

Check out one of their classroom chants dedicated to Depauw University:

The students also go on a college tour every year to imprint the idea of college into their minds at an early age.

“We believe students thinking about college, even when they’re five-years-old makes it more of something that they’re striving and working for,” Circle City Prep founder, Megan Murphy, said.

On April 25, 2019 they will hold their annual fundraiser to boost the support for extracurricular programs and eventually they want to teach kids on the middle school level.

They already offer yoga in one of their classes, but they hope to bring in robotics and dance to add to the curriculum.

Right now they teach kindergarten through second-grade students.

They plan on moving it up a notch to third-grade next year.

The fundraiser, which will be emceed by News 8’s Randall Newsome, will include drinks, food, games and music with a live DJ.

Here’s some information on the fundraiser:

  • WHEN: Thursday April 25, 2019
