Guilty verdict returned in 2015 Greenwood murder

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — An Indianapolis man will be sentenced for murder after being found guilty of killing a man in Greenwood in August of 2015.

Marcus Hardy was found guilty of murder and armed robbery on Thursday.

Hardy had been accused of killing 20-year-old Douglas Lane of Bargersville. Police tracked Hardy down less than 12 hours after the murder, but he eluded police following a chase.

He was later found at a shopping mall in Merrillville days after the murder and arrested by U.S. Marshals.

Police said Lane and two other people intended to buy a pound of marijuana from Hardy, but that Hardy didn’t intend to sell them the drugs. Hardy intended to rob them.

Lane was found at an apartment complex, shot in the head.

Lane’s murder was the first in Greenwood in years.

Hardy is set to be sentenced on April 4.
