Health dept. receives multiple mouse-related complaints at Kroger

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — The Hancock County Health Department has worked with management at a Kroger grocery store in Greenfield after multiple complaints involving mice were received.

According to our newsgathering partner The Daily Reporter, the health department received a complaint of a dead mouse in a loaf of bread on Feb. 12. On March 5, another report of a mouse being found in a loaf of bread was received. In both cases, the same brand of bread was in the complaint.

Another complaint of mouse droppings being found in a container of basil was also reported. Officials said that the container was not compromised and that the issue may have occurred at the packaging facility, not at the grocery store.

Lisa Bridges, a customer at the store, told The Daily Reporter that her son saw a mouse in the store last fall.

“The store has no such problem now,” Eric Halvorson, a Kroger spokesman, told The Daily Reporter. “We take any health concern seriously — no matter what it is — and react accordingly.”

The health department says the issues have since been addressed satisfactorily.
