Henry County crash sends 7 to hospital
NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) – A Tuesday evening crash in Henry County sent seven people, including five children, to the hospital, according to the Indiana State Police.
ISP says that just after 10 p.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of North 16th Street for a two-vehicle crash.
Police said their early investigation indicates that a Dodge Ram truck, driven by 29-year-old Derek Bacon, was headed north on 16th Street at a high rate of speed and without any lights on when it collided with a Dodge Journey.
The Journey, which was driven by 37-year-old Jacquelyn Clayson, was going east from 14th Street to 16th Street when she pulled out into the path of the northbound truck.
ISP says the Journey was hit in the passenger side door, knocking it more than 200 feet to the northeast into the yard of Henry Community Health Hospital. Clayson was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Bacon and five children in the truck, ranging in ages from 1 to 11-years-old, were taken to Henry Community Health Hospital to be checked out and have since been released.
