IFD investigating near west side arson fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An arson investigation is underway following a near west side fire, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Just before 7:30 a.m., crews were called to a fire with possible entrapment in the area of West Washington and Addison streets.

Upon arrival, firefighters witnessed heavy smoke and fire showing from the structure. The fire, which started on a vacant two-story structure, then moved to an occupied home to the east.

With more than 20 IFD units, 6 Wayne Township Fire Department units and a Decatur Township Fire units on the scene, crews were able to get the fires in both the original vacant structure and the second structure under control around 8:30 a.m.

Police said there were no injuries. However, investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set. A property damage estimate was not provided.

IFD said neighbors witnessed squatters going in and out of the vacant structures in this part of Washington Street.
