UPDATE: Police around 4:20 p.m. Saturday announced Syncere Vertner had been safely returned to her home and was back in the care of her mother. The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted in the investigation, IMPD said.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The search for a 2-year-old girl is underway, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The child is thought to have been taken by 44-year-old Ted Vertner, her non-custodial father. Officers believe he took the child from the home, leaving the residence in a brown 1973 Cadillac.

Syncere is described as a 1 foot 10-inch tall black female who weighs 20 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police do not believe the child is in danger at this time.
