IMPD: Pershing Avenue hit-and-run victim dies

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers are searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run.

According to IMPD, the incident happened Saturday around 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Pershing Avenue. When police arrived they found 57-year-old Gary McClain unresponsive.

Police say McClain was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He later died of his injuries.

Detectives believe McClain was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound on Pershing Avenue. The car is described as a red, maroon or burgundy 2004-207 Chevrolet Malibu.

According to police there may have been a disturbance before the crash. The vehicle might have sustained minimal damage.
