IMPD responds to scene; officer shoots and injures 1 person, kills dog

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A dog is dead and one person is injured after officers responded to a call on the east side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, officers were called to a disturbance in the 100 block of Villa Avenue.

IMPD said that while on the scene, a number of dogs charged at the officers. Police said one of the officers fired his gun, which hit a dog and also one of the people trying to corral the canines in the hand.

Police said the dog died on the scene while the person shot was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

IMPD said there were no other injuries.

Officers were wearing body cameras and they were on during this incident, police said.

IMPD’s Internal Affairs department is investigating the incident. Also, the civilian-majority Use of Force Board will look into the shooting.
