Indiana resident dies as result of hepatitis A outbreak

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person in Indiana has died as a result of a multi-state outbreak of hepatitis A.

The is Indiana’s first death associated to the outbreak. The outbreak has caused almost 4,000 people to become ill in 10 states. Multiple people have died.

The Indiana State Department of Health made the announcement Wednesday afternoon but did not provide any information about the patient due to privacy laws.

ISDH has confirmed 214 cases since November 2017 in Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Hendricks, Lawrence, Scott and Washington counties. The state typically sees 20 in a 12-month period.
