Indianapolis church takes ‘drive-in’ approach to Palm Sunday

Indiana church finds new way to hold Palm Sunday service

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Churches around the world had to be creative in their plans for Palm Sunday services, as health officials continue to advise against group gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

At one Indianapolis church, the annual service was done drive-in style, where everyone stayed inside their vehicles with palm branches.

Chapel Hill United Methodist Church on the city’s west side held its service outdoors.

Some people at the service, including Donna Hernandez, enjoyed the time out of the house and the opportunity to still participate.

“This is a whole new ballgame for us; we have never seen anything like this and to be able to come out on a Palm Sunday and this begins holy week,” said Hernandez. “There is no words, it’s just spectacular.”

The church has been streaming online services three times a week and has a food pantry helping out its congregation.
