MARION, Ind. (WISH) — An Indianapolis man is dead after a Monday crash involving three semis and a car on Interstate 69.

Officers with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department were called to mile marker 267 just north State Road 18 just before 7 p.m. on a report of a crash, according to Indiana State Police.

All four vehicles were traveling southbound when they ran into traffic as a result of construction. ISP says they believe one of the semis rear-ended the car, which made it hit a livestock trailer, which then hit a box trailer.

Gary Byrd, 62, was the driver of the car and died at the scene, ISP said.

The driver of the semi who initially hit the car, Charles Wright Jr., was taken to Marion General Hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, ISP said. The two other drivers weren’t injured.

Investigators do not believe drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
