Indy dad holds Christmas toy drive for children living in shelters

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis dad is working to collect as many toys as he can before Christmas — all for children living shelters.

Chris Sanders’ efforts started after he learned that many times mothers leaving domestic violence situations have little time to collect items in the home. Often children have to leave their toys behind. Sanders wanted to do something special for those children.

“Every parent can’t afford to give their kid a great gift, that is one less worry that the mom has this year her child having a good present on Christmas Day,” said Sanders.

Later this month, Sanders will collect toys at two IUPUI basketball games on Dec. 15 and 16 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Sanders is accepting new or unwrapped toys from Nov. 23 to Dec. 16. The toys are for children from newborn to 15 years old.
