Indy firefighter raises money for family; business donates beds

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis firefighter Rob McClara started a fundraising campaign to buy beds for 9-year old Angel Byndum and 12-year old Shekinah Edwards.

McClara met angel last weekend when she participated in the Indianapolis Fire Department Clothe a Child program.

The fireman learned how Angel and her sister Shekinah had been living out of a car with their mother until just a few weeks ago when they moved into an apartment.

The family doesn’t have much. McClara decided to get them beds. He raised nearly $3,000, but then Long’s Furniture World & Mattress in Franklin stepped in and donated the beds.

The beds were delivered Tuesday much to the surprise the girl’s mother.

Since the beds were donated, the money McClara raised will go to purchase additional items for the family.
