Indy Public Works event to offer jobs starting at $21.30 per hour

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works hopes to hire job applicants on the spot during an event Tuesday.

The minimum starting rate for positions is $21.30 per hour with many positions offering a higher rate, Public Works said in a news release issued Thursday. Benefits packages include paid time off and full health benefits.

The “rapid hiring” event will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Garfield Park Family Center, 2345 Pagoda Drive. New hires could begin their jobs by Nov. 1.

Public Works has up to 50 open positions, with most — but not all — requiring a commercial driver’s license . Some of the open positions include: maintenance operation technician, heavy equipment operator, heavy equipment technician, and refuse collection driver. Open positions are listed online, the release said.

Offers will be contingent on passing a background check, a human performance evaluation, and a drug test.
