INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Jiffy Lube of Indiana’s Mural project is expanding to give students at Decatur Central High School a chance to show off their creative skills.

The project started in an effort to cover graffiti at an Indianapolis Jiffy Lube store. There are now 14 murals painted by local artists at stores all across the city.

The 15th mural will go on the Jiffy Lube store on West Thompson Road. It will be the first ever created and painted by students and the city’s first 3-D interactive piece.

About a dozen students from Decatur Central High School are working with art teachers and local artist Carl Leck to make the wall come to life.

The painting will be an octopus with part of it coming off the wall through a pipe on the building.

All of the supplies are being paid for by Jiffy Lube of Indiana. The company was recently honored with the Americans for the Arts National Arts and Business Award.

It became one of only 10 companies in the United States and the first in Indianapolis to receive the honor.

The company plans to expand the mural project in more local high schools and will also award a scholarship to one student who works on each project.
