Kids with life-threatening illnesses find fun at drive-thru party

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Kids with life-threatening health conditions along with their families got to have fun Tuesday night.

Dozens came out to a drive-thru party hosted by the Indiana chapter of A Kid Again, which provides recreational therapy to improve the lives of children with life-threatening conditions and their families.

The families got a kit of activities to take home and enjoy.

The organization typically holds more events, but many of them were canceled due to the pandemic.

“We have them coming out here to have fun,” said Katie Pappas, executive director of A Kid Again. “They get to take a break from illness, take a time out and connect with other families.”

Everyone wore a mask and families said it was good to be able to get our of the house while keeping safety as a priority.

“The normal COVID standards are what we’ve followed since 2018 when he was diagnosed,” said Alison Isenhour, whose son participated. “Now with everyone else having to follow it, it helps us because we don’t feel like outsiders all of the time.”

Organizers said they hope they can host more events when the pandemic slows down.
