Lawrence firefighter dies while on duty

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department has passed away while on duty Monday.

The Chief of the Lawrence Fire Department, Dino Batalis, announced that 60-year-old Jeffrey Holt died shortly after 10 a.m. when he suffered a medical episode at the Lawrence Fire Department station that was likely to be cardiac-related. He was transported to the Indiana Heart Hospital where he passed away, despite tremendous life-saving efforts.

Holt had just completed his annual physical assessment training Monday morning.

He served with the department in several capacities since 1996.

This is the first firefighter death in the line of duty for the department, according to Chief Batalis.

Holt is being considered for organ donation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
